What are the different types of HVAC systems?

  1. Split Systems: This is the most common type of HVAC system, consisting of an outdoor unit (containing the compressor and condenser) and an indoor unit (containing the evaporator coil and blower). Split systems can provide both heating and cooling.

  2. Packaged Systems: In a packaged system, all components (compressor, condenser, evaporator, and blower) are housed in a single unit, usually located outside the building. Packaged systems are commonly used in smaller commercial buildings or homes without sufficient indoor space for separate units.

  3. Heat Pump Systems: Heat pump systems use refrigeration technology to provide both heating and cooling. They can extract heat from the air, water, or ground outside the building and transfer it indoors during colder months for heating purposes. In warmer months, the process is reversed, extracting heat from indoors and releasing it outside for cooling.

  4. Ductless Mini-Split Systems: These systems are similar to traditional split systems but do not require ductwork. They consist of an outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor units mounted on walls or ceilings. Ductless mini-split systems are often used for room additions, retrofits, or in homes or buildings without existing ductwork.

  5. Window Air Conditioners: These self-contained units are designed to be installed in a window or a hole in an exterior wall. They provide localized cooling and are commonly used in single rooms or small apartments.

  6. Geothermal HVAC Systems: Geothermal systems use the constant temperature of the earth to heat and cool a building. They utilize underground pipes to circulate a fluid that extracts heat from the ground during the winter and transfers heat back into the ground during the summer.
